Name: Tia Dalma/Calypso.
Age: Appears to be in her thirties when in human form.
Gender: Female
Allegiance: Neutral
Occupation: Tia Dalma is nothing less than the ancient goddess of the known seas, Calypso. Since she was freed from her human form prison, Calypso has once more taken to the refuge of her beloved water’s, though able to return to the surface in her old, once forced form of the human witch, Tia Dalma; Though this is most often when she wishes to visit a certain Captain Jack Sparrow, whom she appears to have affectionate feeling’s for. Able to change the twist’s and turns of the sea at will, needless to say she can never be bored.
Weapon of Choice: As Calypso, her power’s are all the weapons she needs, human cutlasses and knives hold no sway compared to her skills. However, when in human form she uses all kinds of poison’s, concealed bombs and assorted other bits n’ bobs. She can devine the future and certain other things using a selection of crabs claws, though this is not an outright weapon, seeing into the future can help prepare an attack.
Home Town/Island: She lives in the sea mostly, though when she chooses to visit her home as Tia Dalma, she is situated in the Pantano River.
Ship: She has no personal ship which she stay’s on, but visits whichever whenever. Mostly she prefers to visit Jack aboard the Black Pearl, and of course, Barbossa, who chose to free her in return for her services in bringing him back from the land of the dead.
Appearance: images.allmoviephoto.com/2006_Pirates_of_the_Caribbean:_Dead_Man's_Chest/2006_potc_dead_man_chest_035.jpg Tia Dalma's elegant frame is dressed in a ragged dress that could have once been a rather pretty, noble style number, though now it has fallen prey to the life of a pirates clothing. Adorning her neck and bodice are assorted jewellery, the most intruiging of which is the locket that matches the one Davy Jones keeps on his organ. Her dark brown hair is dreadlocked and cascades down her head, also adorned with an array of beads and jewells. Her skin is a darker colour, accented by the fact that it is quite dirty. Her teeth are a startling mix of gold, black and white, common among the people of that time and her nails are black. Whilst she is Calypso however, her body can take any form she desires, one body or not.
Personality: Tia Dalma’s personality is most often than not mysterious and strange. Always speaking in codes, she does not simply spoon feed people with the answers they seek, preferring to see them squirm whilst they work it out. She can get emotional when speaking about her previous lover; Davy Jones, and still keeps the silver locket that matches Davy’s own around her neck, perhaps a sign that she still has feelings for him. When angered, she can be quite intimidating and it is best to stay out of the goddess’s way when this happens, as her powers are quite formidable. When with Jack Sparrow however, her demeanor switches to a flirtatious manner similar to that of the Tortuga girl’s, though she still doesn’t give him all the answers he would desire of her. She is also attracted to Jacks younger companion, Will Turner, no doubt attracted by his boyish good looks and shy demeanor at times.
History: Formerly being known as the Goddess of the sea, Calypso. Tia fell in love with a human man named Davy Jones. It was for he whom she set the task of ferrying the souls of those who died at sea to the next world and, out of love, he accepted the job. She told him he could spend one day on land with her, if he spent ten years at sea and again, he accepted out of love for her. However, on the day when they could have been together, Tia was not there. When questioned by Jones she simply responds; “It’s in my nature”. Out of revenge for her betrayal, Jones went to the pirate court and informed them of how to bind the Goddess and thus make the sea’s safer. So Calypso became Tia Dalma, and lost most of her powers in the process. Her powers were sealed in nine pieces of eight, each held by a different Pirate lord and in order to break the spell, all nine pieces were needed. Since this time, she befriended a young pirate named Jack Sparrow, whom she remained in contact with through to his adult life. At a time, she and Jack Sparrow were `inseparable` and Jack claimed to have `known her`. She provided the pirate Captain with his `Broken Compass` and appears to be deeply interested in his affairs.
Many years after she and Jack last parted ways, Sparrow returned to Tia Dalma in need of her assistance. Pursued across the Caribbean by the dreaded Kraken, Jack planned to find the Dead Man's Chest, and in doing so taking control of Davy Jones's heart, resting within, and ensuring his control over Jones and his Kraken. Although Tia seemed pleased to see Jack upon his arrival at her shack, she appeared more interested in his companion, Will Turner, to whose boyish good looks Tia was instantly attracted. Jack, with more than a touch of jealousy, got straight to business. A series of trades took place, leaving Jack with the location of the Flying Dutchman (Divined by Tia through the "reading" of crab claws) and a jar of dirt to protect him from Jones, while Tia now found herself in the possession of the undead monkey Jack, belonging to the late Captain Barbossa and named after Jack Sparrow, how ironic. The human Jack departed with his crew to track down Davy Jones, leaving Dalma alone in her shack, or so they believed, seeing as the voodoo woman had actually resurrected Hector Barbossa and he was recuperating in her shack at the time.
After Jack had been taken by the Kraken, his crew once more returned to Tia’s shack, more to sulk than to seek guidance. She however, informed them that she had predicted his fall to the locker and asked them what they would be willing to do to save him. Once she had their assurance they wanted to help, she allowed Barbossa to make his grand entrance, to the general shock of the crew of the Black Pearl. Especially those who had actually seen him die; (Aka. Will and Elizabeth). She then announced she would join them on their quest (Yes I know, not in the film. However, she had to tell them at some point) and they began their epic journey. She appeared to lend her magic to aid the crew in their trip to the locker and whilst they were visiting the pirate lord of Singapore, assisted in the ensuing fight by causing a distraction for the pirates below with her musical cart, helped by Cotton’s parrot and Jack the monkey; Which later blew up when all animals were clear, killing many of the opposing sides forces.
Whilst they sailed to the locker, many hints were dropped to the crew about her relationship with Davy Jones, though it appeared only Barbossa actually knew completely of who she was. When they arrived at the Locker, it was she who commanded the crabs to pull the Black Pearl, and in turn Jack, towards the now stranded rescue crew.
When on the Black Pearl, she threatened Barbossa with death once more and was locked in the brig until the time when she would be freed from her human form. It was here where she once more encountered Davy Jones and he told her his heart would always be hers. And in turn, she promised she still loved him.
Once freed, thanks to the help of Ragetti, she was asked to show her favor to the pirate lords and aid them in their fight against Beckett and Jones. Instead, she showed her wrath against the court that imprisoned her by summoning a maelstrom and a whirlpool by striking the sea with lightning. She returned to the sea in the form of a multitude of crabs, thereby injuring the crew of the Pearl with nips and scratches from their claws.
After a while alone in the sea, Calypso decided to return to the surface at times to visit her `friends` in the form of Tia Dalma. This is just as much as to give them guidance and occasionally aid as well as social calls. She still doesn’t forgive the court for her imprisonment, but her anger has dulled a bit. A bit.
Other: Nothing really that I can think of..
Roleplay Sample: (The was an introduction for a Rp) Tia Dalma would turn, the jar of crab claws cradled in her arms like a baby, dark brown eyes glittering with interest. Tattered and dirty skirts swept across the dusty floor of her cabin as she strode over to the table, placing the jar ‘pon the table and sitting in her throne, pausing to pet the albino python entwined around its headrest. “A fine ting you be my pet” she crooned, allowing it to remain there and taking care not to squash it. Reaching forward to pick up her collection of crab claws she would smile, flashing an array of golden, white and the occasional black teeth. She cupped the claws in her hands, whispering an incantation into them and shaking her arms energetically before releasing them into a jumble on the table surface. She studied them closely before sighing and leaning back to look at the ceiling. “Here’s ‘oping him does not get in too much trouble now” she murmured to the snake, which was now curling itself around her slim shoulders. Tia stood up, fingering the silver locket around her neck absently as she glanced at the door. “I wonder if anyone be coming soon to visit us for my advice?” she wondered aloud to her pet, stroking its head. Opening the door she slipped out, the snake still wrapped around her neck like a scaly scarf. “Him used to visit me all the time” she muttered, leaning on the railings and staring at the misty and chilling surface of the river as if in a dream. “Then him go and betray me like that” she shook her head in anger and looked scornfully down at the locket. “When I love him” she frowned intently at it before gripping it, her knuckles going white from the pressure exerted by her grip. “Come then pet, it be cold and chillin’ for you out here” she breathed, turning and walking back into her hut, shutting the door securely behind her. Pushing her way past the array of dream catchers and other mystical devices to the place where Barbossa lay, asleep or dead it was hard to tell. Running a tanned hand through his scraggly hair she murmured, as if to a frightened child; “Soon they will come, Soon it will be time for you”
