Alright: I did make an account, as I'm accustomed to do so before applying for a character. Then I read in the rules that we're not supposed to do this, so I'm awfully sorry about that. So I'll apply for my character as a guest and you can decide whether or not I'm worthy of my account then.
Name: Abram Tannar
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Allegiance: Neutral
Occupation: Ex-Naval Officer, Smuggler
Weapon of Choice: Sword coupled with his trusty flintlock
Home Town/Island: Boston, Massachusetts Bay Province
Ship: The Mutineer, formerly the HMS Darling
Appearance
img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/_big_al/oldersailorboy.jpg
Abram has a lithe, upright figure that has been weathered by spending many years at sea. His skin is permanently rough and burnt from wind, salt and sun, marked by the tell-tale smatters of freckling from his youth. He possesses a hard, angled jaw and a stern brow drawn with dark brows. His hair is a coarse nest of black hair that has lightened to a brown colour from being in the sun.
He dresses practically and maintains a partial tidiness to his presence, as well as a touch of gallantry by keeping a faded red sash knotted loosely at his neck. Over the past several months, he has meticulously destructed the details of his naval coat to make it less prominent. For the most part he has succeeded in making it appear exceedingly shabby and worn, but there are some eyes who won't misplace its hue of blue.
Personality
Generally, Abram considers himself an amiable fellow, but he will admit to being curt or gruff with people at times. Abram is also somewhat of a skeptic and frowns upon many sailors' long-held superstitions. He is more likely to put stock into something that is tangible fact than fanciful possibility. His expirience aboard the Darling has also added some caution to his character, as well as a good degree of wariness: instead of boldgering in on decisions like he used to, he now takes time to consider them first.
History
Abram was born in Boston, but the early death of his mother meant he spent most of his life at sea with his merchant father. His childhood into his early adolescence was spent between the mainland provinces and the Caribbean with brief respites on land.
Uninterested in his father's trade, Abram enlisted into the Royal Navy at age sixteen and steadily worked his way up for the next eight years. By age twenty-four he was showing strong promise to be an officer, though it would not be until he was twenty-eight that he was appointed as lieutenant aboard the HMS Darling under a stringer commander, Graham Hilner. Although not always necessarily in agreement with Hilner's policies, Abram generally regarded the older man with respect and turned to him for advice and counsel.
Mutiny sparked aboard the crew of the Darling on a return voyage to England. As Abram was in good standing with many of the mutineers, he chose to take lead action in the mutiny. If he took charge of the mutiny, he would have chief say in what was to become of Hilner and his loyal crewmates. Thus, his opinion to lead the mutiny depended largely on Hilner's good opinion of him; he felt he could trust Hilner to interpret his actions as a noble gesture and clear him piracy––and the gallows.
Several days later, the mutiny aboard the Darling succeeded and Abram was elected captain. Abram persuaded his crew to allow Hilner and his men a rowboat and a small stash of provisions, while keeping it mum as to the crew's close proximity to Great Inagua. Amongst the provisions given to Hilner, Abram slipped in a compass and a note to bear northwest.
Putting in to port in Nassau some weeks later with the intention of turning over the mutineers of his crew, Abram was surprised to find that there was a hefty bounty on his head. Hilner had not seen through Abram's actions after all and had classified him just as much a pirate as the rest.
Taking leave of Nassau and the Bahamas, Abram sailed deeper into the Caribbean and delved into the smuggling trade, using the knowledge he gained as a boy on his father's merchant ship to garner him the best profits in Caribbean and mainland ports.
Other
Abram had the Darling renamed after discovering that he was named to hang. Since then she has become the Mutineer. Some sailors aboard the vessel reckon that renaming a ship brings bad luck––which spells ill amongst the more superstitious members of his crew.
Abram considers himself a well-rounded sailor, although at times he can be wanting in leadership. His chief skill lies in navigation, which he sometimes uses to satiate his crew when they are feeling restless.
